St. Louis University
St. Louis University is a private institution that was founded in 1818. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 8,119, its setting is urban, and the campus size is 235 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. St. Louis University's ranking in the 2011 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, 86.
St. Louis University is a Catholic, Jesuit school that is open to students of any faith. The Campus Ministry organizes specialized retreats and mission trips throughout the year, and the on-campus church holds a daily Mass.
In addition to religious extra-curricular, students can also choose from more than 150 student organizations at SLU, including close to 20 fraternities and sororities. Most freshmen and sophomores must live on campus, unless they commute from parents' home, are married, or have been in the military for at least two years. In total, about 90 percent of freshmen live on campus, all in halls exclusively for first-year students. Students can get involved in campus leadership positions as early as the second semester of freshman year.
The St. Louis Billikens are the collegiate athletic teams from Saint Louis University. This NCAA Division I program has teams in soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, swimming and diving, cross country, tennis, track and field, and field hockey. They compete in the Atlantic Ten Conference (where they are the westernmost member, and both the first member located west of the Mississippi and in the Central Time Zone). The school has nationally recognized soccer programs for men and women.
In addition to its main location in Missouri, the university also has a campus in Madrid, Spain, where students can study for the entirety of their college career or for just a semester. At the main campus, graduate students can enroll in the university's law school or medical school. Notable alumni include Enrique Bolanos, former president of Nicaragua; and August Busch IV, president and CEO of Anheuser-Busch Inc.
At St. Louis University, 55.3 percent of full-time undergraduates receive some kind of need-based financial aid and the average need-based scholarship or grant award is $15,711.

- William P. Leahy, S.J. (M.A. 1972, 1975) - President of Boston College since 1996.
- Dr. J. Bernard Machen (D.D.S. 1968) - President of the University of Florida since 2004.
- James Gunn (B.A. 1992) - Film director (Slither), screenwriter (Dawn of the Dead, Scooby-Doo), and novelist (The Toy Collector).
- Andreas Katsulas (B.A.) - Actor, (The Fugitive, Babylon 5, Star Trek: The Next Generation).
- Enrique Bolaņos (B.A. 1962) - President of Nicaragua.
- William F. Quinn - First Governor of Hawaii (1959-1963).
- Gene Kranz (B.S. 1954) - Lead NASA flight director during the Apollo 11 moon landing and leader of the Apollo 13 rescue mission.
- Brian McBride - First American to score in more than one FIFA World Cup tournament, doing so once in 1998 (vs. Iran), and twice in 2002 (game-winners vs. Portugal and Mexico). He is also SLU's all-time leading goal-scorer and held the freshman scoring record until 2003.
