Wright State University



Wright State University is a public institution that was founded in 1964. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 13,504, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 557 acres. It utilizes a quarter-based academic calendar. Wright State University's ranking in the 2011 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, Tier 2.

The university is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools at the doctoral degree-granting level.

Bachelor's degrees are awarded in a number of different disciplines, including accountancy, art history, computer science, dance, English, geological sciences, Greek, human resource management, education, international business, mass communication, motion picture production, music, nursing, organizational leadership, philosophy, psychology, social and industrial communication, social work, theatre studies, and urban affairs. Students must also fulfill general education requirements. Wright State has writing across the curriculum program.

Master's degrees are awarded in accountancy, anatomy, biological sciences, business administration (MBA), education, counseling, engineering, English, logistics management, music education, nursing, pharmacology and toxicology, psychology, public health, and applied economics, among others. The Ed.S. is offered in educational leadership, advanced curriculum and instruction, higher education/adult continuing education, and superintendent.

The University awards five academic doctoral degrees, in biomedical sciences, computer science and engineering, engineering, environmental sciences, and psychology. Additionally, professional doctoral degree programs are offered in medicine (M.D.) and psychology (Psy. D.)

The entire campus is accessible to people with disabilities, and it has a national reputation for being an extremely welcoming and accommodating campus.

Wright State University currently hosts 6 North-American Inter-fraternity Conference fraternities and 5 National Panhellenic Conference sororities as well eight of the nine members of National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternities and sororities.

Wright State sponsors 16 intercollegiate sports, including seven for men and nine for women: Both-basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming & diving and tennis; Women-softball, indoor track, outdoor track and volleyball; Men-baseball and golf. The latest sport additions to the department have been a women's indoor and outdoor track & field squad.

At Wright State University, 68.0 percent of full-time undergraduates receive some kind of need-based financial aid and the average need-based scholarship or grant award is $6,113.

Each year - on an evening in early spring - the Wright State Departments of Art, Music and Theatre, Dance & Motion Pictures collaborate in a unique celebration of the arts to raise scholarship funds through the creativity of hundreds of artists, musicians, actors and dancers. A unique expression of the collaborative spirit between these three distinguished departments, the ArtsGala has become an event which has drawn thousands of patrons in its first decade, who have given over a million dollars to support students in the fine and performing arts.
